Doctrines of North Valley Baptist Church
Phoenix, AZ

The following statements summarize some of the major beliefs we have as a church family.

Scripture
— The Bible is the inerrant, inspired Word of God and it is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. For reasons of textual reliability, we exclusively use the King James Version (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21).

Trinity
— God is a Person, eternally existing as a trinity in unity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - three Persons, yet one God (I Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 4:6; I John 5:7).

Sin
— Man was created in God's image, but fell due to sin, bringing physical and spiritual death, or eternal separation from God. Now, all mankind exists as a fallen race with an inherited sinful nature that causes us to be at enmity with God (Genesis 2:16-17; Romans 3:10-23; 6:23).

Virgin Birth
— Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary and is the very Son of God (Matthew 1:23).

Substitutionary Death
— Jesus lived a sinless life and died on the cross for the sins of the world. He arose from the grave on the third day and later ascended into heaven where He now sits on the right hand of God, the Father (I Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:9).

Salvation
— The salvation of the sinner is obtainable because of the grace of God. It is received by simple faith in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. It is a free gift offered by God to every individual. It cannot be earned, only received (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 3:16).

Eternal Security
— It is the power of God that keeps men eternally secure. Man cannot gain salvation by his works, neither can he lose it because of his works (II Timothy 1:12; John 10:28).

Baptism
— Baptism (immersion in water) identifies a believer with Jesus Christ. It does not save, but is a symbol of salvation (Romans 6:4-5).

Church
— The church is a local group of baptized believers who are called to worship God, encourage one another, and evangelize the world (Hebrew 10: 25; Matthew 28:19-20).

Separation
— Christians are called to separation from worldly, sinful practices, unto a life of usefulness for Christ (II Corinthians 6:17).
